Hannah Visits Chicago

Hannah was Dedicated/Baptized on August 22, 2004, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was dedicated with her cousin Brandon. Father Hoelzel gave us a warm welcome and conducted a beautiful ceremony. Godparents Crystal and Eric performed their roles perfectly and respectfully restrained from any Marlon Brando impressions. Hannah was quiet and cheerful during the ceremony, but she was starting to get a wee bit cranky during the photo shoot that followed. We all enjoyed a great lunch afterwards at the Casa de Quakenbush.

Of all of the events of the past week, I was most concerned about Hannah’s first flight. Traveling in a 737 is a pretty unexpected event for an infant under normal circumstances. Add in the rocket-like ascend required at the John Wayne Airport and you have a trying experience for any baby. I’m happy to report that Hannah made the entire 4-hour flight without a single tear shed. She and Rebecca are still in Chicago visiting family, but I hope to have them back on the semi-stable ground in SoCal soon.
